Solar Technician Training

Course Description: Solar Technician Training course typically covers a range of topics related Installation and Maintenance of Solar Solutions:
Course Overview The Solar Technician Training Course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, install, and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The program covers various aspects of solar PV technology, including system design, installation, and maintenance.. Topics covered include:
  • Introduction
  • Dangers of Electricity and Occupational Safety
  • Basic Electricity
  • OTAD and Data Collection
  • Revision and Introduction to Solar PV Energy
  • Solar PV Module
    Batteries, Charge Controllers and Inverters
  • Principles of Switching
  • Lighting Fixtures and System Commissioning
  • System Design and Site Planning
  • Sizing Assignments
  • System Installation
  • Policy, Legal, and Regulatory Framework for Solar PV in Kenya
  • Solar Water Pumping and Irrigation Knowledge
  • Irrigation and Water Harvesting
  • Oral Assessment
  • NITA Examination
  • This course takes 1 month ( 17 working days ) subject to the number of sessions taken per day.
  • The trainers are experts in the field of solar photovoltaic technology with relevant qualifications in related fields such as electrical engineering or physics.
  • The theoretical training is conducted in an ordinary classroom setting while practical classes is conducted in the field during industrial attachment. This enables the
participants to have access to relevant Solar equipment, tools, and resources. e-Learning Resources are also provided to enhance learning.
  • The cost for the training is KShs. 50,000/- per person for Kenyans. This fee covers training materials, and other necessities for a conducive training environment. Participants are expected to arrange for their own accommodation near the training venue
  • Upon successful completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate from the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) and be eligible for licensing by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to practice as a PV installer and/or contractor
  • As part of the training program, participants will have the opportunity to go through industrial attachment for hands-on experience in a real-world setting. This will enable them to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical setting.
  • Participants are required to have a minimum
grade of form 4 and some understanding of technical concepts and preferably some experience in the field of electrical installation or related industries.
  • The course is open but not limited to energy system designers, engineers, installers, project developers, vocational instructors, vendors, O&M technicians, and solar companies.

Final Project: Applying concepts and skills learned to create a complete Solar Solution and sharing the final project with peers for feedback.

By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge and practical experience necessary to design and develop Solar Solutions that are, user-friendly, and adequate to various user needs.

Certification: Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Higher Institute of Applied Learning / NITA Solar Technician Certificate.
